A Cartoon Perspective on Health: Dr. Cumhur Ertekin’s 1977–78 Public Health Brochure and Health-Themed Cartoon Competitions

Abstract

Cartoons are an art form that tackles issues in a contemporary and critical way. This feature makes them useful as a document when tracing societal and historical processes. This article explores how, in the late 1970s, the Medical Chambers utilized cartoons as a communication tool to raise public awareness about health issues, focusing on a Public Health brochure and health-themed cartoon competitions from that period. It also delves into the cartoon perspective of Prof. Dr. Cumhur Ertekin, who created the brochure, as well as the health policies of the time.
