Adana İli Seyhan İlçesinde Görev Yapan Aile Hekimlerinde Benlik Saygısı ile Sigara Tüketimi ve Nikotin Bağımlılığı Arasındaki İlişki: Kesitsel Bir Çalışma

Öz

Amaç: Bu çalışma, aile hekimlerinin benlik saygısı ile sigara içme durumları ve nikotin bağımlılığı düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır.

Gereç ve Yöntem: Kesitsel tipteki bu araştırma, Adana’nın Seyhan İlçesi’nde görev yapan aile hekimleri ile yürütülmüştür. Veri toplama aracı olarak sosyodemografik sorulardan oluşan bir anket formu, Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği kısa formu ve aktif sigara kullanıcılarına uygulanan Fagerström Nikotin Bağımlılığı Testi kullanılmıştır. İstatistiksel analizlerde ANOVA, Pearson korelasyon ve çok değişkenli regresyon analizi uygulanmıştır.

Bulgular: Katılımcıların (136 aile hekimi) %24,3'ü aktif sigara kullanıcısı iken, %53,7'si hiç sigara kullanmamış ve %22,1'i sigarayı bırakmıştır. Aktif sigara kullanıcılarının Fagerström puan ortalaması 6,3±1,9; tüm katılımcıların benlik saygısı puan ortalaması ise 30,2±8,4 olarak bulunmuştur. Sigara içmeyenlerin benlik saygısı, aktif içenlere göre anlamlı derecede yüksektir (p=0,007). Nikotin bağımlılığı ile benlik saygısı arasında negatif yönlü ve güçlü bir ilişki saptanmıştır (r=-0,764; p<0,001). Regresyon analizi yalnızca aktif sigara içicilerinden oluşan alt örneklem üzerinde (n=33) gerçekleştirilmiştir ve benlik saygısının, bağımlılık düzeyindeki varyansın %55,7'sini açıkladığı görülmüştür (B=-0,090, β=-0,787; p<0,001).

Sonuç: Aile hekimlerinde düşük benlik saygısı, nikotin bağımlılığı ve sigara tüketimi ile ilişkilidir. Kesitsel tasarım nedeniyle nedensellik ilişkisi kurulamasa da bu bulgular, benlik saygısını güçlendirmeye yönelik müdahalelerin tütün bağımlılığıyla mücadelede etkili olabileceği hipotezini destekler nitelikte olup bu ilişkiyi test edecek boylamsal araştırmalara zemin hazırlamaktadır.
