Abstract

The Photovoice method is a research method that enables individuals and communities to express their experiences through photographs. In the health sector, the Photovoice method is used for functions such as needs analysis and assessment, individual and community empowerment, the development of critical awareness, and policy and system change. In this study, social science research studies conducted using the photovoice method in the health sector and included in the Web of Science Core Collection were examined from a bibliometric perspective. The search was conducted on May 23, 2026. Only articles indexed in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) within the last 5 years were included in the study. The search resulted in a total of 562 articles. The data were analyzed using the “Analyze Results” module of the Web of Science platform and the VOSviewer software (version 1.6.20). According to the findings, the articles were most frequently produced in the United States (US), Canada, and the United Kingdom. The institutions with the highest publication rates were the University of London, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Toronto. The studies were primarily categorized under “Public Environmental Occupational Health,” “Social Sciences Interdisciplinary,” and “Social Sciences Biomedical.” The “Photovoice” method is increasingly being used in health research. Interest in the subject has been observed to have increased in recent years in Turkey. The study is expected to contribute to future research by highlighting current trends in the use of the “photovoice” method in health research.
