Abstract

In the 18th issue of SoSa, we focus on photovoice, a community-based participatory research design through which participants document and discuss the realities of their own communities through photographs. Temmuz Gönç Şavran, Başak Daban, Melek Ekiz, and Zübeyde Nazir examine the meanings women attribute to tobacco use in relation to gender, identity, and everyday life experiences. Temmuz Gönç Savran, Selma Karabey, Ahmet Can Bilgin, Yağmur Köksal Yasin, Bülent Kılıç, and Yeşim Yasin make visible, through the photovoice method, the vulnerabilities and solidarity practices of service-sector workers who continued working during the pandemic. While Temmuz Gönç Şavran discusses the theoretical foundations, implementation stages, and ethical principles of the photovoice design, Ahmet Furkan Süner and Ahmet Can Bilgin examine health studies using the photovoice design indexed in Web of Science. Murat Aysin and colleagues address the views of adults living in Balıkesir on the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare services. Aylin Leblebici Öztürk discusses the concept of “noise” in photography in her essay The Image’s “Odradek”; Bülent Kılıç examines Aşıklar Bayramı in the Both Book and Film series. In the visual world of this issue, a hybrid language that brings together Gustav Klimt and contemporary digital concept art comes to the fore.
