Abstract

In today's world where drugs are a part of daily life and the pharmaceutical industry intervenes in the social sphere, the studies of people specialized in social sciences on the subject are of interest. This study aims to examine theses on drugs in the field of social sciences. This study is a bibliometric analysis of theses on medicine published in the social sciences group of ULAKBIM (National Academic Network and Information Center). Theses published on drugs were scanned from the ULAKBIM thesis scanning network. The scan was conducted on 05.11.2024. 403 theses were reached within the scope of the scan. After removing duplicate theses, the remaining number of theses was 402. 336 of the theses were master's (83.6%), 62 were doctoral (15.4%), 2 were medical specialization (0.5%), 1 was proficiency in arts (0.2%), and 1 was a subspecialization in medicine (0.2%). The first thesis was published in 1972. The most theses were published in 2019. The year 2019 was followed by 2022, 2024, 2018, 2014 and 2010, respectively. The most frequently published dissertations on medicine in the field of social sciences are in the fields of Business, Economics, Law, Labor Economics and Industrial Relations and Health Management. Social science research is likely to contribute to our understanding of the effects of medicines and the pharmaceutical industry. More research is needed based on the gap observed in the field.
