Abstract

Housing is not only a structure that fulfils the individual's need for shelter. Housing is also a living space that contains emotional and social functions such as belonging, trust and socialisation. The housing problem, which became evident with the migration from rural to urban areas with industrialisation and migration movements, revealed problems such as squatting, unplanned urbanisation and unqualified housing production. In this process, mass housing projects especially for the lower- and middle-income group were proposed as a solution to the housing need. However, the construction of these housing projects over time has led to social problems such as social stratification, individualisation and weakening of neighbourhood relations. The aim of this study is to analyse the theses and dissertations on mass housing in Turkey. Theses published on public housing were scanned from Ulakbim thesis scanning network. A total of 912 theses were reached. After removing duplicate and irrelevant theses, the remaining number of theses is 449. 392 of the theses were master's theses (87.3%) and 57 were doctoral theses (12.7%). The first thesis was published in 1986. The most theses were published in 2019. 2019 was followed by 2015, 2010, 2022 and 2023, respectively. There are a total of 522 subject headings in theses.
